Consuming sugar in excess can cause unwanted health issues. Studies have shown that people who drink sodas on a regular basis tend to gain more weight compared to those who don’t. the sugar drinks also increase belly fat and promote insulin and leptin resistance. it also increases the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer.

A frequent consumption of sugary drinks only has a negative impact on your health. It has been linked to poor dental health, dementia and gout. The drinks do not contain any nutrients and you will end up consuming more total calories. Findings from numerous studies have shown that coffee is also an important dietary factor that causes an elevation in adiponectin level.

Adiponectin is a protein hormone that regulates glucose levels and breakdown of fatty acids. In addition, coffee also reduces the concentration of leptin. Although, the studies about this are still inconclusive.

Coffee contains several antioxidants, according to different studies, the dietary intake of coffee plays an important role in prevention and promotion of obesity. Coffee is also known to increase insulin sensitivity with the reduction of inflammation. The lower levels of adiponectin increase the risk of insulin resistance and inflammation.

Furthermore, it also possible that coffee reduces low grade inflammation that is mediated with the elevation of adiponectin. Studies have also shown that individuals who have a higher consumption of coffee have a significantly lower body mass index. Moreover, studies have also shown relationships between coffee mediated through adiponectin and leptin concentration.

Leptin is associated with inflammatory factors and obesity which can stimulate the insulin resistance; higher consumption of coffee has an effect on leptin concentration2.

Coffee consumption increases the levels of adiponectin which as a result decrease the levels of leptin, as well as lipid profile. A study also suggests that consumption of 6 cups of coffee a day leads to an increase in energy expenditure and increases satiety.

There are only a few studies that have researched on the possible role of coffee on concentration of leptin, however, based on several studies, coffee increased the levels of adiponectin. Although, the mechanism is unknown. Therefore, more studies need to be conducted regarding this in future.
